Food Protection Program

The purpose of the Food Protection Program is to protect Ashland County and City from foodborne illness by administering Chapter 3717 of the Revised Code, Chapter 3717-1 of the Administrative Code, and Chapter 901:3-4 of the Revised Code, and using a program of inspections based upon epidemiologically determined risks. In the event that a foodborne outbreak does occur, appropriate epidemiologic action is taken by the Health District to control the outbreak and bring it to a conclusion. The Food Protection Program consists of the licensing and inspection of all Food Service Operations, Vending Machine Operations, Retail Food Establishments, and Temporary Food and Mobile FSO/RFE within the jurisdiction of the Health Districts.

Significant time is spent inspecting food stands at festivals to assure that temporary operations have the necessary equipment and facilities to safely hold and handle the food that they serve.
