Health Education

Health Education/Health Promotion designs, conducts, and evaluates activities that help improve the health of all people, meeting the mission of the Ashland County-City Department (ACCHD). These activities can take place in a variety of settings that include schools, communities, health care facilities, businesses, colleges, and government agencies.

The profession of health education is based on seven (7) areas of responsibility. These are:

  • Assess individual and community needs for health education
  • Plan effective health education programs
  • Implement health education programs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of health education programs
  • Coordinate the provision of health education services
  • Act as a resource person in health education
  • Communicate health and health education needs, concerns and resources

By utilizing these areas of responsibility, the health educator within Health Education/Health Promotion is involved in various community initiatives, including the Local Emergency Planning Committee, the Rape Crisis Domestic Violence Task Force, the collegiate and state Tobacco Cessation Initiative, the local Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA), Samaritan Regional Health System Care Collaborative, Public Relations, Emergency Preparedness, and working with the Ashland County-City Medical Reserve Corps volunteers.

Additionally, the division staff works with all divisions within the ACCHD to promote services that improve the public’s health. You are likely to see ACCHD staff and the ACCMRC at numerous community events, such as Public Health Day, Help Me Grow Christmas Party, the Loudonville Health Fair, the Ashland Senior Health Fair, the Ashland County Fair, the Loudonville Street Fair and Community Flu Clinics.
