Animal Bites & Rabies

Rabies is a virus that attacks the brain and nervous system. It is most commonly found in wildlife (skunks, bats, racoons, coyotes, and foxes), but pets, especially unvaccinated pets, can get rabies from infected wildlife.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are not a known health risk as they do not spread disease.

Birth and Death Records

We provide same day certified birth certificate copies for all Ohio counties, and certified death certificate copies for individuals who died in Ashland County. Birth and Death records are available from 1908 to the present.

Campgrounds

The sanitarians, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Health, review plans for, license, and inspect all campground and public swimming pools.

Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH)

Children with Medical Handicaps (CMH) is an Ohio Department of Health (ODH) program. Our public health nurses provide local CMH services, including assistance with the application and ongoing support and coordination of care for participating families. CMH offers financial support for certain healthcare services related to the CMH eligible diagnosis.

Communicable Diseases

Our epidemiologist is responsible for the prevention and control of infectious disease in the community. Protection of public health is accomplished through active case identification, assessment, data collection, public education, and referral to community health partners.

Food Safety/Restaurant Inspections

Whether you are cooking for yourself, your family, or for a potluck, follow these tips to prevent foodborne illness, also known as “food poisoning”.

Head Lice

Lice is a parasitic insect that can be found on the head, eyebrows, and eyelashes of people. They can also be found in the bedding or clothing of infested persons. Head lice feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the human scalp. Because head lice are not known to spread disease, management and treatment of head lice does not fall under our scope of services.

Health Screenings

The screenings listed below are offered to individuals over the age of 18. Please note that these screenings are not intended to diagnose any medical condition. It is the individual’s responsibility to seek the advice of a medical provider when abnormal results are identified through these screenings.

Immunizations
